A misting system is an appliance that is used in cooling the air through releasing mist or water particles into the area. Misting systems are used in areas where there are high temperatures but greatly depend on the environmental humidity conditions in order to be effective. This is because the air that is already saturated with moisture due to humidity will not allow the mist particles released by the misting system to evaporate and therefore the cooling effect will not be felt. The system is great for areas of hot climates but that are not humid.
These misting systems are used for cooling the indoors as well as the outdoors. A large capacity misting system can be used to cool an entire restaurant patio or back yard. You have probably ended up feeling damp or wet after attending a sports game at a stadium. This is usually due to the misting system used in cooling sports stadiums or outdoor amusement events.
The misting system depends on a small water supply in order to be able to achieve its function. It works by releasing water through special pressured nozzles. The nozzles have small orifices giving them atomising properties to be able to release very small particles of water. The pressure level of the nozzle will determine how micro-fine the mist that is released is.
The cooling effect of the misting system depends on how small the mist particles are. The smaller the mist particles, the more effective the system is. The concept of the cooling by the micro-fine mist particles is dependent on flash evaporation. Flash evaporation is only achievable by small water particles or the fine mist particles. The flash evaporation of the many micro fine mist particles can cause a very significant drop in environmental temperatures.
There are three different misting system varieties depending on the level of pressure in the misting system nozzle. These include high pressure systems which are usually used in large scale, small pressure systems and small capacity low pressure misting system varieties which are used in the household by individuals and are usually portable.
The effectiveness of the misting system also depends on its location. For optimum cooling, it is usually advisable to keep the mist line at around eight to ten feet above the ground. The mist line is the level where the nozzles of the misting system are lined up. The addition of a misting fan only helps in propelling the mist from the misting system and achieving better cooling range.
